Not all companies are as good at producing sports cars as Porsche is. In many ways, it was the 356/2 that allowed Porsche to become the brand we know today.

The first Porsche was introduced as the 356/1, which had no fixed roof and a mid-mounted four-cylinder engine. Soon after, Porsche received the necessary funds to put the sports car into production thanks to a Swiss entrepreneur named Ruprecht von Senger.

The second model was 356/2. A total of 52 copies were produced. One of these cars, number 32, is now listed for sale at $3.5 million.

Unlike many other cars of the era, the history of this 356/2 has been extensively documented for decades. It was built on June 12, 1950 and delivered to the customer in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1952 it was purchased by Gerd Kaiser, who competed in the Midnight Sun Rally in the Arctic Circle.

The car saw the hands of several other Swedish residents in the 1950s and 1960s before being deregistered in Sweden in 1974 and sold in Norway. It later passed into the hands of a California collector and then ended up with collector Jim Barrington in 1994. The 356/2 was then sold to Cal Turner III and shown at numerous events before being acquired by someone in the UK in 2007. Last year, DK Engineering became the owner of this precious rarity.
