Venus is about 15 degrees west of the sun and Jupiter is 30 degrees east of the star. Other planets that may be visible are Saturn and Mars, which are about 35 degrees and 36 degrees west of the sun, respectively. For eclipse observers in the path of totality beyond Mexico and Texas, the brightest star above Earth, Sirius, will appear above the horizon and should be visible to the southeast. Among the other fainter stars that will become visible are the Goat Star Capella, which is high in the northeast, and Rigel, which is lower in the southeast.
