In the archives you can find a huge number of different photographs of members of the British royal family from different times.
Today we want to show you a photo that was taken on this day – October 10, 1949 in London. Princess Elizabeth, heir to the British throne, is pictured in the car, with her little son Prince Charles sitting in her arms.
That day, the family was returning from a holiday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland back to London. The princess was wearing a light outfit and a black hat of a very funny design, and her son was wearing white clothes. It seems that Charles was not very happy about something at that moment.
Three years later, the princess became the new Queen Elizabeth II. This happened in 1952, February 6, the day her father King George VI died. Her reign lasted 70 long years until her death on September 8, 2022.
