Rare Phenomenon of 5 Parallel Planets in June 2022, What Is the Impact on Earth? page all

KOMPAS.com – Five planets in the Milky Way galaxy will align or line up on June 24, 2022.

The five planets are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

Rare phenomenon

Quoted from The GuardianThursday (2/6/2022), this is a rare phenomenon because it rarely happens.

Meanwhile, if there are three planets that are seen in a row it has become commonplace or ordinary.

“This is a rare opportunity to see the same thing closer to home, with the naked eye we can see all five planets at once,” said researcher at the University of Edinburgh’s Astronomy Institute, Prof. Beth Biller.

The planets of the solar system orbit the sun in a very narrow plane, which means that when viewed from Earth, they appear to be close to an imaginary line in the sky called the ecliptic.

Five planets will rise above the horizon in the early hours of Friday, although it may be difficult to see them all until the end of the month.

When can you see the five planets aligned?

Dr Greg Brown, public astronomer at the Royal Museums Greenwich, said Venus and Jupiter would be the easiest to see, with Venus over the horizon at around 04.00 am UK time and Mars and Jupiter visible at around 2.45 am.

Meanwhile, Saturn rises above the horizon at around 01.30, but like Mars it will become difficult to see at dusk.

Mercury will be the most difficult to find because it only rises around 4:30 a.m., when it will be difficult to see in the light of day, and will remain close to the horizon.

“Your only chance to see all five planets at the same time is after Mercury rises but before sunrise,” Brown said.

Mercury will be easier to spot in June when it appears in the sky and brightens.

Did Indonesia also get to witness this phenomenon?

BRIN Astronomy and Astrophysics researcher, Clara Yatini said that this is a rare phenomenon five parallel planets This can be seen also in Indonesia.

He also said, to observe it can be with the naked eye or without the help of imaging tools such as binoculars.

“It can be seen in Indonesia. Observe it before the sun rises,” said Clara when contacted by Kompas.com, Sunday (12/6/2022).

“If the sky is good, you can see it with the naked eye, but if the object is weak, it’s a bit difficult. With a telescope, it’s even more difficult because of the limited field of view,” he added.

Clara added, the phenomenon of five parallel planets can be seen anywhere, both high and low areas as long as the field of view is not blocked.

Does it have an impact on Earth?

Although it is a rare phenomenon, Clara said, the parallel event of the five planets in the Milky Way galaxy does not have a direct impact on Earth.

“There is no direct impact on Earth,” said Clara.
