Rare Movie Experience on Gaza Beach: Palestinians Rediscover Big Screen Entertainment

On benches of tires, rocks and hills of sand, Palestinians of all ages enjoy watching movies on a big screen in a rare event on a Gaza beach.

Children’s comedies such as “Ferdinand” are among the list of outdoor films, and for some it is their first experience of watching a movie on a big screen since the last theater in the impoverished enclave closed more than three decades ago.

The show, which takes place in the “The Sea Is Ours” café, promotes cultural and historical issues, and some viewers are eager to repeat the experience.

Although Gazans can go to film screenings that are held from time to time in theaters and other places, watching films that are shown over several weeks in the place is a rare pleasure.
