Rare Letter from Titanic Passenger Before Ship Sank Sold at Auction for $12,000

A letter written by a Titanic passenger shortly before the ship sank has been sold at auction for $12,000, writes Men Today.

This letter, as auctioneer Sebastian Zorrilla explained, has been in the family all this time and has been passed down through three generations.

It was written by Uruguayan Ramon Gomez. In it he tells his brother that he wants to get to North America and that he was “tempted” by a “steamer of 45,000 tons”.

“It was chilly as we approached the steamer, and when I looked up I felt as if I were at the foot of a five-story building,” the letter said.

The letter was sent on April 12 from Ireland, where the Titanic had its last stop before entering the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

This letter contains two sheets of paper and a note written later by the addressee: “The last letter written by my dear brother. Three days later he drowned during the sinking of the Titanic.”
