The anonymous woman was on holiday in Wester Ross (Scotland) in the late 1990s, where she entered a bookshop. There she took home the first ‘Harry Potter’ book, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, for less than 10 pounds, the equivalent of about 12 euros. Later she discovered that this was actually a rare first edition, which gave the book immense value. After all, barely 200 books were printed in the first edition. The book that the woman managed to acquire was one of those 200.

The British BBC just announced that the woman managed to sell the book for 64,000 euros. “It’s a great result for such a great find,” says book expert Jim Spencer in an interview with the BBC. “This was a true first edition that has been very well maintained.”
The ‘Harry Potter’ books are among the best-selling and most popular books of all time. More than 600 million books about the spectacled sorcerer’s apprentice have been sold worldwide.
