As reported by the Daily Mail, the incident occurred during a forest fire in Downton Lake near the township of Lillooet on August 17 and sparked fear when the sky was covered in red.
It is recorded on video and shared on social media platforms. To date, the video has been viewed nearly 500,000 times.
The British Columbia Forest Fire Service says a ‘fire swirl’ is a violently rotating column of gas and flame.
So far, it is not clear whether the tornado fire caused any injuries or property damage in the area.
