A 1981 DeLorean with 977 miles (about 1,600 km) on it that sat in a garage for nearly two decades has been brought back to life, so to speak. The discoverer’s surprise is that the car has very little rust and is equipped with the original tires. The clip was posted by YouTube channel DeLorean NATION and shared by Motor1.com.
An interesting find recently surfaced in the New Mexico desert: a pristine DeLorean tucked away in a dusty warehouse with only 977 miles on the odometer.
In recent years, the iconic stainless steel sports car associated with the movie “Back to the Future” has become a symbol of the 1980s and a relic prized by collectors and enthusiasts alike. It can be quite an event to see an abandoned DeLorean given a second chance at life.
The DeLorean DMC-12, designed by visionary engineer and entrepreneur John DeLorean, was a revolutionary concept that sought to combine style, performance and innovation in a unique way. With its distinctive gullwing doors and sleek stainless steel bodywork, the car was a true icon of its era. But it wasn’t just its design that captured the public’s imagination, it was the promise of time travel, immortalized by its appearance as a time machine in the Back to the Future movies, that really catapulted the DeLorean into pop culture.
It is one of the first DeLoreans produced
Over the decades, enthusiasts around the world have maintained and restored these rare vehicles, keeping the dream of owning and driving a DeLorean alive. Most recently, an example was discovered that had been in storage for over 20 years with only 977 miles on it. The car shown in the video at the bottom of this page is in fairly good condition with only minimal amounts of rust on the surface of some chassis components and is still fitted with its original tyres.
The YouTubers at DeLorean Nation take a closer look at the car and discover that it is one of the first vehicles ever produced. It left the factory in April 1981. The engine also appears to be in good condition with all hoses intact and no major leaks. Apart from the dust covering almost every surface inside and outside the car, and the number of dead mice, everything seems to be restorable about this car.
