Always wanted to walk around in an authentic Star Trek-costume? Or in an original suit worn by the first Supermanactor George Reeves in the fifties? Then you can soon make your move at an auction in Dallas. A collector of unique items from American films and series sells his entire collection there.
Over the years, James Comisar has collected an impressive number of film and serial objects. In addition to the Superman– in Star Trekcostumes, he also has costumes and props in his collection Batmanfrom the sixties.
More recent is the original bar from the TV series Cheers, which aired from 1982 to 1993, with the actors’ names carved into it. Comisar also has tools from the series Breaking Badwhich characters Walter White and Jesse Pinkman used to make crystal meth.
It’s just a small selection from the collection. There will be about a thousand items in total next month under the hammer.
Years of collection
Comisar has been collecting the stuff since 1989. He grew up in Los Angeles and was already hanging around movie sets as a kid. During his studies he discovered that used film and series props were not properly stored anywhere.
For example, costumes were sold or rented after filming, and in some cases even thrown away. The famous Cheersbar found Comisar in a studio storage, with a dead skunk inside.
He actually planned to set up a museum to exhibit everything. But that plan failed, after which he decided to auction the objects. “I think this stuff should get to the fans so they can enjoy it. If a museum opens on a good day, passionate fans and collectors will certainly have taken good care of it.”
It seems that Comisar will also earn a nice pocket money from it. On the Cheersbar and it Superman-suit has already been offered for more than 1000 dollars online.
