Rare Experience Flying 3 Hours Near Super Blood Moon

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A reddish moon is visible from the cabin window of the Qantas airline, which opens a special route for ‘flight Super Blood Moon‘on Wednesday (26/5).

This rare sky phenomenon is enjoyed by passengers from the Australian airline who have booked flight tickets “anywhere” from an altitude of about 15 thousand meters.

Crossing the sky over Sydney harbor for three hours, 180 travelers sit idly by gazing at the moon.

“Incredible, I thought I had never looked like that [bulan] which is like that from the land, “passenger Abdullah Khurram told CNN.

Tickets for flights sell out in 2.5 minutes by flight-hungry Australian travelers – currently limited to travel within the country or to New Zealand as part of the travel bubble.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is at its closest point in its orbit to Earth, which means the moon looks brighter and bigger to the human eye.

Meanwhile, a total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the earth’s shadow, and as a result looks darker and redder.

These two phenomena created Super Blood Moon.

“The red color comes from sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere – the ring of light created by all the sunrises and sunsets that were taking place around our planet at that time,” he explained. NASA on its website.

Qantas works with astronomer Dr. Vanessa Moss to create “the optimal flight path over the Pacific Ocean”. The airline mapped flight paths around the trajectory of the rising moon and the timing of the total eclipse.

The result? Guarantee some pretty spectacular moon views for all the passengers on the plane, who have paid from AUS $ 499 for an economy ticket (approx Rp.5.5 million) per person to AUS $ 1,499 (approx Rp.16.6 million) per person for business class seats.

The plane took off at 19.30 and landed at 10.15. A total of about three hours the plane was in space to be “close” to the moon.

Astronomer Moss, who was also on the plane to give passengers insights about the moon, told CNN before the flight that Super Blood Moon was a very unusual occurrence.

“Separately, a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse are not that rare, but if you put the two together, it can be very rare,” he said.

Australia will not see another super blood moon until 2033, Moss added.
