Rare Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) Visible in Türkiye: What You Need to Know!

Comet C / 2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), which sky enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for since the day it was discovered by scientists in January 2023, has begun to be seen in the sky of Türkiye.

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), which has an orbital period of about 80 thousand years, can be seen with binoculars and telescopes on the eastern horizon before sunrise on Friday, but will be visible to the naked eye again after a few days due to its proximity to the Sun.

“If it doesn’t disintegrate, it will be seen again from mid-October.”

In addition, according to the predictions of some scientists, it is possible that the comet, which will be closer to the Sun on October 8-13, will overheat and break apart because of the heat of the sun and the solar winds. . If the comet does not disintegrate, it will be visible again on the western horizon after sunset from mid-October.

Astronomer Murat Helvacıoğlu and his friend Sinan Kendirci, who were for the times when Comet C / 2023 A3 was discovered, were discovered last year and were observed just before sunrise for four mornings, close to Earth to quick, to Kastamonu all night to capture this natural event that they would witness once in their life.

Astronomer Murat Helvacıoğlu and his friend Sinan Kendirci, who prepared hours in advance to photograph the comet, which can be seen even with binoculars or a small telescope from areas without light pollution, entered the coordinates that were into the telescope and studied the comet.

Comet seen once every 80 thousand years in the sky of Türkiye

Astronomer Murat Helvacıoğlu and his friend Sinan Kendirci, who were preparing in the field at the crossroads of Sapaca Kastamonu village, saw this natural event that can be seen once in 80 thousand years, by taking pictures with special equipment like that the comet began to be seen.

“It will be invisible in a few days”

Helvacıoğlu said that comets are pieces of rock that revolve around the sun:

“They are pieces of rock several kilometers long. When these pieces of rock come close to the Sun, they spray the dust and gas inside and grow into tails, and these are called comets. Comet C/2023 A3 was discovered last year and came close to the Sun this year. Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is a nonperiodic comet. Therefore, it has a long orbit of 80 thousand years.

Usually, it comes from outside the solar system, goes around the sun and is swept away again by the sun’s gravitational pull. We used high resolution cameras and a telescope with quality optics when photographing comet C/2023 A3. With this, we made the comet, which we could not notice with the naked eye, visible with long exposure methods. the use of an optical telescope will give them a great advantage in terms of vision.

The comet will be completely invisible after a few days because it is too close to the Sun. After orbiting the Sun, it will be visible again in mid-October, but this time we will see the smaller comet as it moves away from Earth and the Sun. Therefore, it will be more beneficial to view it with equipment that can take long exposures. “
