Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Apple Inc declares supply shortage chip as the core component for producing iPhone. The company also expects revenue growth to slow.
Apple executives said revenue for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year calculation would grow in double digits, but remained below the third quarter’s 36.4 percent growth rate.
“We did have a few shortfalls where the demand was so great and beyond our own expectations that it was difficult to get the whole range of parts in the time we were trying to procure,” Chief Executive Tim Cook quoted him as saying. South China Morning Post, Friday (30/7).
The scarcity of chips will not only affect the iPhone, which may delay production so that the product will be difficult to find. This is also experienced by many other manufacturers ranging from Playstation 5 to cars.
Sony Corp. previously said it was having difficulty finding components to produce its newest game console, the newly released Playstation 5.
Meanwhile, vehicle manufacturers such as General Motors, Stellantis and Honda closed vehicle assembly due to a shortage of chips.
Reasons for rare chips until the end of 2021
Forbes explains the world’s COVID-19 pandemic is playing a big role in the current shortage. When the lockdown triggered a fall in auto sales, automakers immediately cut orders for parts, including semiconductor chips.
But at the same time there is a huge spike in the demand for electronics.
But when car sales rebounded at the end of 2020, and the auto industry started placing orders for new chips, things didn’t work out because they couldn’t get enough chips to produce cars.
This condition is also felt by the electronics industry and technology companies Forbes.
The shortage of chips during the pandemic was exacerbated by the closure of the number of chip factories, ports and restrictions in various regions aimed at suppressing the transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
