JAKARTADead girl 12 years on Probolinggo, East Java, recently shocked many people. The reason is, when the body was washed, the girl came to life. He had received treatment for an hour, but it was stated die again.

In the medical world, the condition is called rising from the dead lazarus syndrome nothing new. Lazarus syndrome defined as the return of delayed spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) stopped. In other words, patients who are pronounced dead after a heart attack experience a return to activity heart dramatically. Reporting from the page Medical News Today, since 1982, when the phenomenon lazarus syndrome first described in the medical literature, at least 38 cases were reported.

According to a 2007 report by Vedamurthy Adhiyaman and colleagues, in about 82% of cases lazarus syndrome to date, ROSC occurs within 10 minutes of discontinuation of CPR, and approximately 45% of patients have experienced good neurological recovery.

Actually what causes lazarus syndrome still unclear, but there are several theories. Some researchers say, lazarus syndrome may be due to the accumulation of pressure in the chest caused by CPR. Once CPR is stopped, this pressure can gradually be released and heart back to work.

Another theory is delayed action drugs used as part of resuscitation efforts, such as adrenaline.

“It is possible that drugs injected via a peripheral vein are not given adequately centrally because of impaired venous return, and when venous return improves after stopping dynamic hyperinflation, drug administration may contribute to the return of circulation,” explain Adhiyaman and colleagues.

Hyperkalemia in which the level of potassium in the blood is too high is another proposed explanation for lazarus syndrome, because it has been linked to delayed ROSC.

Because so few cases lazarus syndrome reports, uncovering the exact mechanisms behind the conditions is complicated. However, it may not be what brings patients back to life to worry about, but the possibility that they really haven’t died.

Lazarus syndrome very rare. According to Adhiyaman and colleagues, several researchers have suggested that patient monitored passively for 10 minutes after death, as that is the time frame in which delayed ROSC is most likely to occur. (Read Also: 3 Smart Ways to Turn Children into Healthy Eaters)

“Death cannot be certified on patient anywhere immediately after stopping CPR. A person should wait at least 10 minutes or longer, to verify and confirm Dead without a doubt, “said the researcher.

However, regarding organ donation, other researchers noted that waiting as long as 10 minutes to see if ROSC might occur could be detrimental. But, care professionals health and researchers both agree that doctors today have the expertise and medical equipment to effectively determine whether a patient is dead or not.
