She then underwent a gynecological examination and doctors confirmed there was a ‘stone’ the size of a large orange between her pelvic organs.
The doctor who treated him then placed a left ureteral stent to decompress the kidney. Patients are also started to be given spectrum antibiotics while waiting for the urine culture procedure or examination to detect the presence of bacteria in the urine. The patient’s urine culture results stated that he had a gram-negative bacillus infection, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
He then underwent targeted culture therapy to treat the infection.
Once the infection was resolved, doctors from the Lebanese University, used laser therapy to break up the mass. Ultrasound shock waves are emitted from the device into the patient’s abdomen, on the outside of the body.
After being broken into several pieces, the stones were removed using forceps during an operation that lasted three hours. The vaginal stone lodged between the woman’s pelvic organs was so large that it was pressing on her bladder. This condition reduces capacity and causes urine leakage.
After surgery, the patient is then sent home with antibiotics, and the nurse is advised to carry out scheduled follow-up. Analysis of the stones in the woman’s pelvic organs is formed from a mixture of calcium oxalate and struvite crystals.
Apart from that, the doctor explained that the vaginal stones experienced by this woman were a rare case. Similar to kidney stones, vaginal stones are usually influenced by various factors including diet, urine pH, urine stasis, microbiome, sex hormones, and genetics.
