“Tavria” was ready by the beginning of the 80s, but for a long time it was not allowed to be put into production. Prototypes ZAZ-1102 differ significantly from the production model in design.
Rare archival photos of the first prototypes of the ZAZ-1102 Tavria have been shown on the Internet. Hatchbacks were created back in 1978 – nine years after the start of production of a serial model. About it informs site Ampercar.
The photo shows that the concept car ZAZ-1102 “Tavria” is somewhat different from the production model. It has a different front end with a curved hood and larger, Vauxhall Chevette-inspired rectangular headlights.
A tachometer was installed in the prototype cabin, which disappeared on the production model. The cars received a 1.1-liter 50-horsepower engine, which made it possible to develop 135 km / h.
It should be noted that the design of the Zaporozhets successor began in the mid-70s. “Tavria” was preceded by a front-wheel drive sedan ZAZ-1102 “Perspective”. The car has been ready for production since 1976, but the authorities did not allow its release.
The development of the model was continued and by the end of the 70s it had evolved into the Tavria hatchback. A total of 11 such prototypes of the first series were produced, and by 1982 the car had changed and gained its usual familiar design.
However, the “Tavria” was not allowed to the conveyor for a long time. The fact is that the priority was a larger model of a similar layout – the VAZ-2108 hatchback: only after it was launched into production, the ZAZ-1102 project received the green light.
Previously Focus reported that the rarest electric car “Tavria” was discovered in Germany. Auto planned to produce and deliver to Europe.
We also wrote that in the USA they noticed an old “Zaporozhets” in perfect condition.
