Rare 14-Karat Gold Lego Bionicle Piece Sells for $18,000 at US Auction – Only 30 in Existence

There are only 30 of them in the world.

A Lego piece was sold at auction in the US for more than $18,000.

About it writes People.

The 14-karat gold designer piece, donated to a Goodwill store in Pennsylvania, was originally priced at $15.

The small Bionicle mask was found while sorting through a bag of jewelry.

“You wouldn’t think it was anything unusual. It was in a little old Lego box,” said Chad Smith, vice president of e-commerce and technology at Goodwill.

This item was first listed for sale online for $14.95. “We didn’t know it was worth anything until people started asking if it could be bought for $1,000,” said Smith in an interview with WPVI-TV.

Workers examined the piece and found that it was a very rare Kanohi Hau mask. Lego created only 30 of these golden masks.

“It was a giveaway, and 25, I think, were given away, and five were left for the people who worked at Lego. So 23 years later, one of these came out, and it’s really unique.” said Smith in an interview with KDKA-TV.

Goodwill put the piece up for auction and it sold for $18,100 to an anonymous collector.

The gold mask now stands as the most expensive Lego piece ever sold, taking the title from a 14k solid gold 2×4 brick that sold for $15,000.

Let us remind you that recently the picture sold for a record $17 millionwhen they found out who the author was. The painting “The Adoration of Kings” turned out to be the work of Rembrandt.
