Rappers who died in 2020


2020 was a year of loss, especially in the rap community. A number of rap artists lost their lives during the year – some died of tragic overdoses and killings, and others even lost fights with the coronavirus (COVID-19). Below are some of the rappers who died in 2020 and what their careers were like before they died.

1. Lexii Alijai

Lexii Alijai was originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, and was a rapper perhaps best known for her appearance on Kehlani’s 2015 song “Jealous”. She was still building her career when she died of an accidental drug overdose in January. She was 21 years old.

2. Pop Smoke

After gaining fame in 2019 with “Welcome to the Party,” Pop Smoke, 20, was recognized as one of the fastest-growing rappers when he was fatally shot in a house break-in in February.

Police arrested five suspects in July for their alleged involvement in the crime, which apparently happened after the New Yorker mistakenly shared on social media the address of the Los Angeles house he lived in.

3. Mac P

Mac P was a 24-year-old rapper best known for his connections with the Shoreline Mafia musical group. He died in April after being approached and shot by an unknown suspect on a street in his hometown of Los Angeles.

4. Chynna

Chynna was an all-rounder who was known as a model, DJ, and rapper. She gained attention in the music industry through her relationship with A $ AP Mob and released popular songs like “Selfie” (2013) and “Glen Coco” (2014).

Sadly, her career ended just a few years later, in April, when she died of an accidental overdose. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Chyna, 25, was found in her home in her Philadelphia homeland.

5. Fred the godson

Fred the Godson, 35, was a Bronx-born rapper whose talents earned him a coveted spot on XXL’s Freshman Class list in 2011, along with acts like Kendrick Lamar and Mac Miller. His life ended in April when he succumbed to complications from the coronavirus, via NPR.

6. Ty

Like Fred the Godson, Ty also died from the coronavirus, The Guardian reports. Before his death in May, the 47-year-old British rapper had received a lot of recognition for projects such as “Upwards” (2003), which allegedly earned him a Mercury Award nomination.

7. CEO Bezzal

CEO Bezzal was a 21-year-old aspiring rapper from Memphis. He made a name for himself in 2020 with the songs “Rockstar” and “Back End” when he was shot in Washington DC in June. His murder still seems unsolved.

8. Lil Marlo

Known for his relationship with Atlanta rapper Lil Baby and songs like Future-sponsored “1st and 3rd”, Lil Marlo was shot and killed in a shootout on the highway in July. So far, no suspects have been named for the murder of the 30-year-old.

9. Tray Savage

Tray Savage, a Chicago rapper who is signed to Chief Keef’s Glo Gang label, was shot dead by one or more unidentified assailants in June while driving through a local neighborhood, according to Ace Showbiz. He was 26 years old.

10. Huey

Huey, a St. Louis, Missouri-born artist best known for 2007 hit “Pop, Lock & Drop It,” was killed in a double shootout in June. CBS News reports that he was in a neighborhood block when someone fired gunfire, fatally injuring the 32-year-old and injuring a 21-year-old.

11. Bris

The Sacramento rapper Bris was murdered in his hometown in June. About three months later, the Sacramento Bee reported that a suspect had been arrested in the murder of the 24-year-old who had a song called “Panhandling” on YouTube with over five million views.

12. FBG Duck

Popular Chicago rapper FBG Duck died in August after he was shot dead after shopping in his city. He was 26 years old.

13. Mo3

Like Lil Marlo, Mo3 was killed in a robbery on the highway. TMZ reported in November that the 28-year-old Texan rapper tried to avoid a chase, but he fell and was gunned down while trying to escape. In December, a suspect was arrested in connection with the death of Mo3, who was known for his song “Broken Love” among other things.

14. King Of

King Von was best known for his friendship with Chicago rapper Lil Durk, but he was also a star himself.

Songs like “Crazy Story” and “Took Her to the O” earned him fame and respect as a rapper, but he was shot dead in November after getting into a scuffle with members of the farce of rapper Quando Rondo in front of an Atlanta pub was. He was 26 years old.
