Rapper rolands če will host a program “REPortāža” dedicated to rap music on Pieci.lv / Article / LSM.lv

Starting from October 23, one of the leaders of the hip-hop subculture in Latvia – rapper and producer Rolands Čivčs – will present the audience with current events in Latvian and foreign rap music for two hours on Friday on Latvian Radio 5 – Pieci.lv. will also learn about the sound of this genre in different decades.

“Hip-hop, more precisely the genre of repo music, has come a long way – from the protest movement and the only career opportunity in the poorer parts of America to the dance floors and the biggest stages in the world. It could be said that public acceptance has been received, but how is it really – what does the rap give and perhaps on the contrary – deprive the public? It will be open about everything you have seen and experienced in the genre, as well as about the current and future outlines, ”says the manager Rolands Če.

Rap music is one of the most popular genres in Latvia and abroad. According to data available from the streaming service “Spotify”, more than half of the twenty most streamed songs in the week of October 16-22 represented this genre of music. In the United States, already in 2018, rap was the most popular music genre in terms of the number of albums sold and streams sold, occupying more than 21% of the market (according to statista.com). Also in the first half of 2020, eight of the ten Billboards’ most listened artists were rappers (from Nielsen Music).

“Rap is the new rock and roll. Contemporary rap artists make fans exclaim and dominate music charts around the world.

I am glad that we can start on Latvian Radio 5 with a new program dedicated to rap music, which will be hosted by the iconic rapper and producer Rolands Če, ”says Mārtiņš Makrekcis, music editor of Pieci.lv, about the genre.

rolands če is a successful rep musician who has released four albums and for the last of them – “Siera plate 2” – he was nominated for last year’s award “Golden Microphone”. He is not only an active artist and performer, but also a researcher of the genre, who as a result of the competition proved his knowledge in the history and current events of rap music.

The name “REPORT” is borrowed from the song “reportage” of the late musician Rolexus (Roland Friedenberg), as well as corresponds to the essence of the program – to report on the current in the specific genre. Rolexus has been working for the Kurzeme Rape Association DNA since 2002, and released his debut album “Backpack Stories” in 2007. He was part of the “Speaking Hall” association, which also included rappers such as Būšš, Reinstein, Wiesturz, Georgs and Hemp.

On the topic of the first show, the head of the roland Che speaks enigmatically, but intriguingly: “Let’s look at what happened on the day when this alien named rep landed on our planet. Let’s see what good it did when we appeared on the planet ourselves. The first show on the first day of rap and maybe some after that. ”

In the waves of the Ministry of Finance, the radio station can be heard in almost a third of the territory of Latvia, reaching 73.1% of the country’s population. You can also listen to the youth channel on the Internet at www.pieci.lv or in the Pieci.lv app. “Kantar TNS” 2020 spring / summer radio audience research data show that Latvijas Radio 5 – Pieci.lv reaches 144 thousand young people all over Latvia every week. The largest part of Pieci.lv’s audience is between 16 and 34 years old.
