Önder Doğan, better known under the alter ego Murda, is a rapper with Turkish and Dutch roots. In 2007 he released songs for the first time before collaborating with Mero, Eno and Ezhel, among others, in the following years. His collaboration album “Made in Turkey” with the latter rap artist landed itself at number one on the Spotify charts in Turkey and was streamed millions of times by fans.

indictment and conviction
Murda himself cannot be happy at the moment: As the rapper confirmed via Instagram, the Turkish government sued him for old texts and sentenced him to four years and two months in prison at the end of April 2022. According to the court, he glorified drug use and even encouraged his fans to take them.

“I just got a call from my lawyer because he appeared in court for me today. Unfortunately I have bad news for you: the judge found me guilty and gave me four years and two months. My head is spinning and there are many things I want to say. I made a few songs back then. These songs were released and reached millions of people. I performed these songs live on stage and my fans sang all the songs with me. We laughed and danced together to all these songs – even those that didn’t speak Turkish. They started singing/rapping Turkish words after hearing my music,” he wrote via Instagram, among other things.

Most recently, Murda testified that he would appeal, adding: “A beautiful thing that ends up with such ugly results is a sad thing.”

Whether the family man can finish his next studio album or will be deported by the Dutch police has not been explained in detail.
