Samuel Kübler from Steinen records rap under the pseudonym Mokuba. His fans access the songs millions of times on the Internet. The 25-year-old has been running his own record company in Cologne since 2017.
Shaky camera work. Fast cuts. The lens repeatedly zooms in on details in the picture. “Love is in the air” is written on Mokuba’s sweater. To this end, the rapper strings cryptic-sounding snippets of words together for outsiders: “Nikes on, run out, daydream, wake up / get in, take-off, moku, motorsport.” Mokuba does not need an article, he only uses verbs if it really has to be. Instead, he uses anglicisms and catchphrases. Anyone who knows Mokuba’s world understands this language and its codes. Everyone else is amazed at the hectic music video for his song “A-Team”.
