A famous rapper in Houston, Texas, kidnapped a homeless woman and held her in the garden of his house for at least 4 years, until the police found her.
In detail, the woman who was allegedly detained by the famous rapper Lee Carter, 52 years old, for 4 years in his home, was found last April, but an arrest warrant against him on charges of felony kidnapping was issued last Thursday.
The woman told authorities that about four or five years ago she was begging in Houston when Carter picked her up, saying, “He would help her,” according to the British newspaper The Independent.
The crime was revealed when the woman used Carter’s laptop to contact the police station, confirming that she was a hostage, without revealing details about how she obtained the laptop.
A Houston Fire Department crew went to Carter’s Perry Street home on April 7, opened the garden door, and found a woman trapped inside living in squalid conditions, with the room containing a makeshift toilet that wouldn’t flush, contaminated bedding, and a few canned foods.
Police found the homeless woman malnourished, with a foul odor and flaky hair, and wearing a tattered T-shirt and shorts, according to prosecutors.
Court records did not explain why the authorities were absent for nearly 9 months until they arrested the suspect, but court files showed that the singer paid $100,000 to secure his freedom.
The woman was pregnant when Carter picked her up, according to the complaint, but a Harris County District Attorney’s spokesman declined to say whether the woman had given birth to the child.
