American rapper Fatman Scoop has died at the age of 53. The artist collapsed yesterday during a performance in the state of Connecticut and later died in the hospital.
The musician, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III,’s death was announced by his tour manager on Instagram. Scoop was performing in the city of Hamden when he became unwell. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but his life could not be saved.
The New York rapper was known for his iconic, booming voice. Scoop made appearances in well-known songs by artists such as Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey and Timbaland.
He gained most of his fame through the record Be Faithfulwhich was released in 1999 but only really gained international attention in 2003. The song contains many samples from records by, for example, Faith Evans and the band Chic.
Scoop was also considered an influential figure in the New York hip hop scene in the 1990s. His booking agency MN2S calls him “a beloved figure in the music world. His iconic voice, infectious energy and amazing personality have left an indelible mark on the industry.”
