NEW YORK – Famous rapper DMX was hospitalized in “serious condition” Friday night after a heart attack at his New York home.
The 50-year-old rapper was rushed to a White Plains hospital from his nearby home around 11:00 p.m. Friday, his attorney Murray Richman told our sister network NBC New York. Richman described the rapper’s condition as serious, but said he did not know what precipitated the heart attack.
On Saturday morning, the publications TMZ and Variety reported that DMX’s heart attack was allegedly caused by a drug overdose. A source told TMZ that his doctors “warned he would not make it.”
The New York native made headlines last summer when he appeared in a battle of Verzuz in July with Snoop Dogg. He had also reportedly been working on a new album after his release from prison for tax fraud. The rapper completed a 12-month stint in prison and was released in January 2019.
DMX has shared its struggles with the addition in the past. In late 2019, he took to Instagram to announce that he checked back into rehab and subsequently canceled a series of performances.
News of the DMX’s condition spread via social media Saturday morning, garnering swift support from greats in the music and entertainment industry.
