Show off – beyond death!
Rap star DMX (“Party Up”) died on April 9 of a drug overdose in New York. The memorial ceremony took place in Brooklyn on Saturday (April 24th). And that was anything but ordinary …
► The hearse: a monster truck! The Ford F-250 is custom built. On the side is the lettering “Long Live DMX” (in German: Long live DMX). It has tractor tires and a special engine. Sound system. Cost: Estimated up to $ 175,000!
On the back of the open truck was DMX’s bright red coffin.
The truck drove through the streets of Brooklyn and was cheered by fans. In the “Barclays Center” the commemoration took place in a smaller group. Everything was organized by family and friends of the rap star, whose real name was Earl Simmons. They called the event “Celebration of Life Memorial” (meaning: We celebrate life).
► The funeral speakers: among others the 15 (!) children of DMX. They also rapped on the stage. “Our father is a king. Our father is an icon, ”said the eldest son Xavier Simmons (28).
Tashera Simmons, 50, the ex-wife of DMX, told the audience: “Everything he did, he did for all of you. He always wanted to please you. He always wanted to offer you his best show. “

Producer Swizz Beatz (42) and rappers Nas (47) and Styles P (46) also gave speeches. The latter said, “DMX was the ghettost person there ever was. What it means to us is indescribable. (…) Whenever you saw him, this man was in pain, but he was built out of love. “
Since the 1980s, DMX had repeatedly attracted attention through drug offenses. He took cocaine for the first time when he was 14 years old. He went into withdrawal and relapsed. On April 2, 2021, he suffered a heart attack as a result of an overdose. He died a week later.
► Other guests of the commemoration: Busta Rhymes (48) and Kanye West (43). West’s Sunday Service church choir opened the ceremony with a gospel performance. Then they sang, for example, “Jesus Loves Me” by Whitney Houston († 48).
