A man has been shot dead in Amsterdam. It concerns the 26-year-old rapper Bigidagoe.
The shooting took place this morning around 5:30 am at an industrial estate in Sloterdijk, a police spokesperson confirms reports from Het Parool. The victim was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he died.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting. No one has been arrested yet.
Rapper Bigidagoe shot dead at the Sloterdijk business park
Bigidagoe was part of the rap formation Zone6 from Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Several of its members have come into contact with the law.
There was also a lawsuit against Bigidagoe himself, whose real name was Danzel Silos. In December, the Public Prosecution Service demanded four years in prison for involvement in the kidnapping, threatening and assault of rival rapper Kobus L. No ruling had yet been made in that case.
Silos was also shot in August 2020, then in the Rivierenbuurt in Amsterdam.
Shortly afterwards, the rapper released a song about the shooting.
Silos’ family leaves to Het Parool know to be devastated by his death, and to await the investigation by the police.
Drill rap
Bigidagoe was a so-called drill rapper. His lyrics are often about the use of violence against rival gangs and glorifying crime.
Drill rappers often make threats against other drill rap groups through video clips and social media. It is not known whether there is a connection with Bigidagoe’s death.
Due to the violence in the drill rap world, Amsterdam Mayor Halsema announced that he would ban rappers from recording and distributing inflammatory music videos in the capital.
