Samuel Hartman is back in prison after a year on the run. Sentenced to life in 2013 for the rape of his 14-year-old daughter-in-law, the 39-year-old man was arrested in Lewisburg, West Virginia. His wife Misty, his mother Linda White and her boyfriend, Rodney Trent, were also arrested, according to a press release from the US Marshals published on Tuesday. On August 12, 2022, Samuel Hartman was performing work at the Eastern Arkansas Detention Center when a vehicle approached the inmates.
Two women – identified as Hartman’s wife and mother – got out of the pickup truck and opened fire on the guards, as the prisoner rushed towards the vehicle. A chase ensued to the Mississippi River, where the fugitives, who had planned their shot, jumped on jet skis. After a year of investigation, investigators were able to establish that Samuel Hartman had ties to West Virginia. With the help of the authorities of this State, the three people and their accomplice were located and arrested Tuesday afternoon in a motel.
“Today’s announcement is the culmination of a year of exceptional and dedicated work by our heroic law enforcement officers. Now that they have brought this dangerous fugitive to justice, everyone in Arkansas can sleep more peacefully at night,” said Sarah Sanders, Governor of Arkansas and former White House spokeswoman under the Donald Trump era.
