Rapid tests of saliva will be in the Czech Republic from October, confirmed Prymula

“A certain break should mean a possible change in testing. If all goes well in terms of comparative tests, we should have protein tests that are faster from 1 October. In one cycle, they make it possible to detect positivity for a change in color after incubation in an incubator where the temperature is set. After some 45 minutes, we have the result, “said Prymula.

“These will be so-called LAMP-tests from saliva, where the presence of the virus is determined on the basis of a chromatographic change, ie a change in color, and which can show the result within 45 minutes,” Prymula told Práva.

The nasopharyngeal swab is now used with brushes, ie the PCR test. This test examines the genetic information of the virus in ribonucleic acid (RNA). People should have the results within 48 hours. For a cheaper and faster protein LAMP test, saliva is sufficient. This type of test has long been used in other diseases.

The Vice-Rector of Charles University and the head of the research team at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences, Jan Konvalinka, told Czech Radio on Thursday that saliva tests are an opportunity for mass testing. According to him, it would pay off if testing was free for everyone.

Charles University announced in mid-August that a private test for influenza and coronavirus was being developed by the private sector, which could hit the market around mid-September. Academics said they were ready to get involved in testing their lab like in the spring.

Better quarantine records

He also said at a seminar on telemedicine on Friday that the quarantine register will be adjusted due to the upcoming elections.

According to Prymula, not everyone who ended up in quarantine has been well registered. It mainly involves people who have been in contact with those infected. Doctors expose them to e-disability. According to the Ministry of Labor, 76,101 were issued from 1 March to 3 September.

“There are a number of models for quarantine. So far, it did not matter at all in terms of registration, although we were able to accurately record cases ordered from hygiene and issued e-incapacity from practitioners. Others that escaped in the system were not completely registered, “said Prymula.

According to him, the records are now being adjusted, due to the October elections. “There is a huge demand here for everyone to be able to vote. The system is being modified, including markers, how to mark people so that we can identify them and know how many people are in quarantine mode, “said Prymula.

Now, people with symptoms or those who have been infected for less than two meters for at least 15 minutes usually have paid tests. They receive an electronic request from hygienists or their doctors. Those who go for the test themselves and pay for it do not have it. Now it should also be filled in at the collection point and registered. Without an e-request, the collection should not take place, said Prymula.

He mentioned possible “covid passports” as a perspective for the future. For example, people might have QR codes with the information that they have a negative test. It would be used, for example, when visiting various events or when traveling. “This is another way to optimize and expand the system,” the government agent added.
