On Monday, the Rapid Support Forces forces announced that they were open to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire through negotiation with the Sudanese army.
This came in a statement signed by the Rapid Support Forces and the Taqaddam Civil Forces Alliance in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
In his speech after his meeting with the head of the Civil Forces Alliance “Taqaddum”, Abdullah Hamdok, the army was also invited to sign the same declaration, adding that the document lays the foundation for peace negotiations to end a war that has been raging for more than nine months.
Hemedti said, “We extend our hands for peace and that it is war in Sudan,” and demanded that the party that ignited the war in Sudan in mid-April be held accountable.
Hemedti’s meeting with former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok comes after the leaders of Uganda, Ethiopia and Djibouti welcomed Hemedti during this tour.
In a speech he delivered at a meeting on Monday with the head of the Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces, Abdullah Hamdok, Hemedti apologized for the violations in Al-Jazira state and said that the Rapid Support Command is working to arrest the “unlawful people.”
He added, “We reiterate our call to the regional and international community to think optimistically about our conflict and struggle… in view of the new future of Sudan after achieving peace.”
