Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – The number of prostitutes in Baden-Württemberg has risen sharply. As the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday, at the end of 2022, 26 percent more people working in prostitution were registered in the southwest than in the previous year, namely almost 3,500.
However, that is still significantly less than before the corona pandemic. At the end of 2019, almost 5,000 people were registered as working in prostitution in the country. In the first Corona year the number fell by almost half. The office also attributes the fact that it is now rising sharply again to the easing of pandemic-related restrictions.
Most of the registered prostitutes have foreign nationality, the most common being Romanian, Bulgarian and Spanish. Only one in six people reported in prostitution is German.
The prostitution protection statistics have been carried out since the 2017 reporting year. Unregistered prostitutes and businesses cannot be recorded and analyzed.
