FC Barcelona celebrated a clear 4-1 win in the home game against Bayern Munich. Salzburg also suffered a defeat against Dinamo Zagreb with a 2-0 defeat.
After Sturm Graz’s defeat against Sporting Lisbon yesterday, today it was up to Salzburg to secure the first win for an Austrian team in the current Champions League season against Dinamo Zagreb. But as in the first two games, Salzburg found it very difficult to set an offensive tone today. Since the guests from Zagreb also concentrated primarily on defense, the first half turned into a duel at eye level with few highlights. Consequently, it went into the break with a score of 0-0.
The second half started very badly for Salzburg, as Kulenovic made it 0-1 in the 49th minute. The next setback for Salzburg came in the 66th minute: goalkeeper Schlager came far out of his goal after a long ball and collided with Kulenovic. During Zagreb’s follow-up shot, Schlager had his hand on the ball outside the penalty area and saw the red card.
With one man less, Salzburg was still too harmless offensively to equalize. And with Petkovic making it 0-2 in the 84th minute, the game was decided. So the Red Bulls are still waiting for their first point after three matchdays.
Flick wins against former team
In Barcelona, the home team got off to a perfect start and took a 1-0 lead after just 58 seconds through Raphinha. But Bayern quickly recovered from this early shock and equalized in the 18th minute through Kane. A high-class duel at eye level then developed, with Lewandowski making it 2-1 in the 36th minute. Before the break, Raphinha increased the score to 3-1 after a remarkable individual effort. And the captain made it 4-1 after the break after perfect work from Yamal in the 56th minute.
With a clear lead behind them, FC Barcelona played the clock confidently and still had one or two chances to score more goals. Lewandowski missed the best just ten minutes before the end. In the end it was a clear 4-1, which means Bayern Munich is only in 23rd place in the table with three points after three match days.
Haaland show against Sparta Prague
Numerous more goals were scored in the remaining games of the evening. Manchester City celebrated a confident 5-0 win against Sparta Prague at home. In addition to Foden, Stones and Nunes, Erling Haaland scored twice – including an acrobatic backheel to make it 2-0. The second English team, Liverpool FC, also celebrated a victory this evening. Darwin scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win at RB Leipzig in the 27th minute. This means that Leipzig is still without a point after three CL match days.
Altetico Madrid are still struggling to get going in the Champions League and suffered a 3-1 defeat at home against Lille despite leading 1-0. With the same result, Benfica Lisbon had to admit defeat at their own stadium, Feyenoord Rotterdam. The Young Boys Bern were on the verge of a small surprise in the home game against Inter Milan. But a goal from Thuram shortly before the end ensured a 1-0 win for the favorites. Marko Arnautovic was in the starting line-up for Inter and missed a penalty in the first half.
Brest and Leverkusen drew 1-1 earlier in the evening and Atalanta Bergamo also had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Celtic Glasgow.
