Raphaël Varane strongly criticizes the English Football Association FA in a statement on social media. According to the Manchester United defender, the players in the Premier League are being squeezed.

Varane attended a meeting of the FA last week, where new plans were revealed. “As managers and players, we have been expressing our concerns about the amount of matches for years now. The schedule is overcrowded and it is dangerous for the physical and mental health of players,” writes the 30-year-old Frenchman Xformerly Twitter.
“Despite our previous feedback, they want longer games next season, more intensity and less emotions from players,” continues an angry Varane, who already stopped as a France international earlier this year because of the high tax. “We just want to be in good shape on the field so that we can give 100 percent for our club and fans. Why is our opinion not being heard?’

Varane thinks that football is being ‘damaged’. “We want to reach our maximum level, be our best version and deliver great performance to the fans. I feel privileged that football is my job. But I believe it is important that we, players and managers, bring these issues to light. To protect the game we all love.”
The Athletic already wrote on Sunday that it will get much worse from the 2024/2025 season. Partly due to the new structure of the World Cup for clubs, internationals can compete in 87 matches per year. A season seems to last 337 days, clubs that play in all tournaments play a match every four days on average.
