The ÖFB Cup duel between FC Blau-Weiß Linz and TSV Hartberg could not be ended due to a medical emergency involving Raphael Dwamena. The Linz striker collapsed next to the pitch in the early stages of the game while screaming.
“His defibrillator hit and the doctors were able to stabilize him quickly,” explained blue-white manager Stefan Reiter WHAT. The good news: “Raphael’s condition is stable.” The rescue chain “worked extremely well”. “It didn’t take a second for the paramedics to be on their way to him.”
Reiter thanked the Hartbergers that they agreed to abandon the game. “It was immediately clear to us that we would not continue playing today,” said the club spokesman for TSV Hartberg. An alternative date for the game will be announced as soon as possible.
The Ghanaians’ arrhythmias have been known for a long time. The former top striker from Austria Lustenau (22 games, 21 goals) once faced a million-dollar transfer to Brighton in the Premier League. However, at the medical check-up, heart problems were diagnosed.
