A British tourist was raped on the beach in front of her own husband, Indians say New Delhi Televison (NDTV).
According to Indian police, the woman and her husband were on holiday at Sweet Water Lake on Arambol Beach in Goa.
The incident took place on June 2, after a man offered the woman a massage.
The person then abused the Briton – apparently in front of her husband. The woman is described as middle-aged.

After seeking assistance from the British embassy in India, the woman reported the affair on Monday this week, writes The Independent.
Just hours later, Pernem police arrested a 32-year-old Indian man. According to New Delhi Television, the man is from the area.
The 32-year-old is said to be part of a criminal gang that offers “massage” on the popular Arambol beach. The man is also said to have previously worked as a librarian at a school.

Both the woman and the perpetrator were taken to hospital for medical examination.
The man is now charged with violating section 376 of the Indian Penal Code which deals with rape. Police will present the man in a local court on Monday, and will apply to have the Indian remanded in custody.

A spokesman for the British Foreign Office has confirmed that they are providing consular support to a British citizen in Goa.
The area along the west coast of India is a very popular destination for British tourists. According to The Independent, about 300,000 Britons visited Goa in 2018.
