MO43, real name Muhammed Ilguez, is a German rap newcomer from Fulda. With his second song he made it into the singles charts of the radio station You FM. In an interview with our newspaper, the 24-year-old not only dreams of a great career, but also talks about his home in the baroque city.
Fulda – His friends were initially skeptical whether this could work with the black horse. But Muhammed Ilguez from Fulda was never shy, he already performed his texts in front of his classmates at school – and the fact is: Today he collects clicks on YouTube and Spotify.

There were more than 400,000 on the music streaming platform for his second song “Alone”. Clicks – that is the success currency in the industry. Anyone who wants to aim high as a newcomer today – especially on the highly competitive pavement of Deutschrap – must have a certain track record.
Muhammad definitely has something to offer and is most astonished today when he reports about it. He actually had to go to the big city in order to make further progress, and he even had a contract offer from the Ruhr area. A record label from Essen wanted to sign the 24-year-old, but he refused (lalso eat here: “I watch football and watch birds” – Tobias Sammet on Corona, the new Avantasia album and Günter Netzer).
Because the Fuldaer is attached to his city. He was born and raised here, attended the Richard Müller School and trained as a retail salesman. So far, so perfectly normal. But there has always been this side of him that was enthusiastic about American hip-hop and German rap veterans like Sido or Bushido: “I’ve been into beats and lyrics since I was 15. Music has always played a role in my life, ”recalls Muhammed. Today he can live from his music, as he says.
MO43 knows the ingredients (and outfits) that create the right images in your head. But who is behind the designer jackets?

He owes this to chance and good contact: “A good friend introduced me to my current manager and he liked what I do,” he says. Since the end of June 2020, the rapper has been under contract with the Eichenzell music label “JK Records”. His debut single “Alone” was released in July and the song “Mi Amor” came out in October.

In his music videos, the models loll around in the pool of a Croatian villa while MO43 drives through the city sitting in a BMW. The bass is booming in the background. The newcomer knows the ingredients that make up a German rap song. The attitude is right: full beard, tattoos and the typical hand gestures are not missing. “In the beginning I felt like an awkward tree,” says Muhammed. But at some point the Moves and Prada jacket sat down.
The image has to be right, everything has to be perfect and “crass”, as Muhammad says. “Being crazy” – that also seems to be one of those currencies in hip-hop. In the genre, one speaks commonly of “street credibility” or authenticity. But do you buy its story from MO43, who sometimes seems nervous in his white Prada jacket?
Rapper MO43: From Fulda to the very top – a story with potential
A real “Fuldaer Jong” seems to be hiding behind the fictional character on closer inspection, who plays his music all night long. When he talks about everyday life in the studio, the 24-year-old leans forward enthusiastically in his chair. His producer creates the melodies, Muhammed writes the lyrics. “It would be my dream to make it big,” admits the 24-year-old.
From little Fulda to the very top – there is potential in this story. You buy them from the rapper. Authenticity: check. But what makes it really believable is that it doesn’t seem aloof at all. He doesn’t brag about being the best right now. This is what distinguishes him from other rap parvenus. But doing justice to himself also puts pressure on Muhammed: “In retrospect, I would never have released my songs, today I’m much further musically.” That is why he is taking his time with his first album, which he is currently working on.
But whether it’s a dream career or not – the 24-year-old wants to keep the center of his life in Fulda. “This is where you meet and know each other”, this is where your friends are, whose feedback is most important to him. The baroque city has more “realness” for the rapper than the big city, as he says. Real, more tangible, home. That fits Muhammed, just like his stage name. He has to laugh as he explains: “MO – that’s my nickname” And 43? “36043 – one of the postcodes of Fulda.”
