Raoul Zaltzberg, defender of Juan Carlos ‘El Tigre’ Bonilla, declared yesterday, December 19, 2023, that he sent a request to the Southern District Court of New York that he wants another person to represent him in the drug trafficking trial scheduled for the 5th. February 2024.
Bonilla is being represented by Raoul Zaltzberg and Associate Attorney Bernarda Villalona, pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act (“CJA”).
Zaltzberg was appointed to represent the defendant on May 11, 2022, while Villalona appeared for an appearance as associate counsel on January 10, 2023.
While the judge resolves Bonilla’s request, the Court of the Southern District of New York reported that it will appoint César de Castro as additional counsel for the CJA, “exclusively for the purpose of advising the accused on pre-trial matters,” as ordered by the Judge Kevin Castel.
In this notice, Judge Castel emphasizes: “The trial of this action has long been scheduled for February 5, 2024. The Court does not plan to change that trial date.”
Juan Carlos Bonilla Valladares, “El Tigre,” is indicted on charges of conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States and weapons offenses involving the use and possession of machine guns and destructive devices.
