Manchester –
Ralph Rangnick defended his decision not to play Jesse Lingard in the last home game Manchester United. Following criticism from Lingard’s brother and agent.
United beat Brentford 3-0 at Old Trafford, marking the final home game of the 2021/2022 season. When the Red Devils were in a safe position, Rangnick decided to include Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani. The three players are players who will leave in the summer market.
On the other hand, Jesse Lingard, who is also believed to be leaving Manchester United, has not played at all. As a result, Lingard could not say goodbye to MU supporters. The decision was considered a lack of respect for Lingard after the player spent almost his entire career wearing the ‘red’ costume.
United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said: Lingard get more opportunities to play in his era. Rangnick also put forward several other reasons.
“Well, to start, I guess in a few weeks under me he’s already played more games than before I came,” he said. Ranknick reported Stadium Astro.
“Secondly, during the game against Chelsea he contacted me at the hotel and asked me to take him out of the game and training two days after the Chelsea game for family reasons and I allowed him.”
“This is the reason, and with only three substitutions – in other leagues there have been five – I had to make a decision between Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard, or the youngster Alejandro Garnacho, who I really wanted to play and give him a chance after winning. 3-0.”
“I decided to bring in Edinson for every reason I just explained. If I didn’t include Edinson maybe someone else would post ‘not classy for not signing Cavani’, or someone else would post ‘why didn’t the manager sign Garnaco?’
“You have to make a decision. It’s not going to be to everyone’s liking, but it’s part of the game,” straightforward Ranknick responding to criticism from the camp Jesse Lingard.
