Rangers vs. Yankees postponed due to inclement weather

Rain associated with Tropical Storm Debby prevented the first game of the Rangers vs Yankees series from taking place in New York.

NEW YORK – The opening match Friday’s series between the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers was postponed due to rain.

The remnants of the tormenta tropical Debby bring torrential rain and high winds well into the night – and tornado warnings were issued for parts of New York state – the game was postponed shortly after 11 a.m.

The series is scheduled to open with a traditional doubleheader on Saturday — the second of the week for the Yankees, who split a doubleheader with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday following a rainout on Tuesday.

The teams have not yet announced their starters for Saturday’s doubleheader. The Yankees were scheduled to start left-hander Carlos Rodon (12-7, 4.37 ERA) on Friday and right-hander Gerrit Cole (3-2, 5.09 ERA) on Saturday. The Rangers’ first two starters scheduled for the series were right-handers Cody Bradford (3-0, 3.96 ERA) and Nathan Eovaldi (8-5, 3.62 ERA).

The Yankees entered Friday tied for the lead in the American League East Division with the Baltimore Orioles with a record of 68-48. The Rangers, defending World Series championswho were honored at the White House On Thursday’s off day, they are 54-61 and 5 1/2 games behind the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners in the American League West Division.
