Rangers Champions League clash descended into chaos as VAR officials arrested by police for ‘stealing ROAD SIGN’

VAR officials for the Champions League clash with Rangers have reportedly been arrested for stealing a ROAD SIGN hours before the crucial clash.

The Scottish giants will face Dynamo kyiv in European action tonight in Poland – but controversy is already raging before the ball has even been kicked.

Experienced Polish referee Bartosz Frankowski was initially appointed as VAR, with fellow official Tomasz Musial supporting him as assistant VAR.

However, both officials have now been removed from the game after incredible details emerged.

TVP Sport report that Frankowski and Musial – along with a third individual – were caught stealing a ROAD SIGN by police in the early hours of the morning.

They report that the two officials were arrested at 1:43 a.m. for “destruction of road infrastructure.”

The men, who are believed to be intoxicated, were then taken to a sobering-up centre, which will cost them money as the police charge for their use.

This expression is used in many places in Europe when the crime is not considered serious enough to be imprisoned in a cell.

Chief Superintendent Kamil Golebiowski said: “At around 1.40am we received a report of three men carrying a sign in the street.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene. All men were intoxicated and had more than 1.5 milligrams of alcohol in their blood. They were taken to a sobering-up center.”

TVP said it had contacted the Polish refereeing official for comment, but he was not aware of the situation and did not comment.

However, both referees were banned from the match by UEFA.

As always for UEFA matches, the referee team was confirmed 48 hours before the match.

On Sunday evening, Lithuanian referee Donatas Rumsas was confirmed as head referee.

Polish officials Frankowski and Musial were listed as its VAR officials.

However, neither Frankowski nor Musial are now on the refereeing team.

Instead, top Polish referee Tomasz Kwiatkowski is now the VAR, with Pawel Malec as AVAR.

Frankowski, 37, is one of the best referees in Poland and an experienced international referee.

A FIFA-listed player for ten years, he has been a referee at both Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 – acting as VAR at the latter.

WHAT IS A “PUFFING CENTER”?

The POLICE will usually try to take a drunk person home if they are wandering the streets, as this is not an offence.

But if an offence has been committed, law enforcement has the option of taking people to a “drunk-out centre” – sometimes called a “sobering-up cell” in Europe.

In Poland, 52 cities use them, welcoming more than 300,000 people per year.

Although this may save people from spending a night in a cell, those admitted must PAY to attend this center.

And to let those who go there know they are in trouble, the police will charge them a rate as high as the most expensive hotel in town.

Locals call them “the most expensive hotel in town.”
