Rangers will face German Borussia Dortmund in the play-off of the knockout round of the Europa League.

Celtic face Norwegian champions Bodo / Glimt in the play-off of the Conference League knockout round, while Leicester City face Randers of Denmark.

If Tottenham Hotspur advance, they will face Rapid Vienna.

The Spurs’ last group match against Rennes was postponed due to a Covid outbreak and UEFA must decide how the section should be concluded.

Dutch Vitesse are currently second in the group as the governing body decides whether the English club’s game should be reorganized or whether they or Rennes lose the match.

The first leg matches will be played on February 17 and the second leg playoffs will be played a week later.

This season’s new format means that all eight group winners, including West Ham United in the Europa League, advance directly to the round of 16.

Dortmund, a formidable obstacle

Scottish champions Rangers were seeded in Monday’s Europa League draw and finished runners-up in their group behind Lyon.

Dortmund, second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich, entered the Europa League after finishing third in the Champions League section.

Led by Marco Rose after he switched from Borussia Moenchengladbach this summer, they only missed advancing to the top-tier knockout stage by a head-to-head goal difference with Sporting Lisbon, as both ended up very adrift of the Ajax.

Rangers, who currently lead the Scottish Premiership, last faced Dortmund in the 1999-2000 Uefa Cup third round, when the Germans went through penalties after both teams won 2-0 at home.

Since then, the Glasgow team have won two, drawn one and lost five games against German opponents.

They shared 2-2 draws in both games with Dortmund in their Champions League group in 1995-96, while Rangers prevailed on aggregate in the 1966-67 European Cup and the 1982-83 UEFA Cup.

What do we know about Bodo / Glimt, Randers and Rapid?

Celtic, who finished third behind Bayer Leverkusen and Real Betis, face a difficult task against a team that just claimed their second consecutive national title and finished undefeated and second close to Roma in their Conference League group. , thrashing the Italians 6-1 at home and a 2-2 draw away.

Leicester, who finished third in their group behind Spartak Moscow and Napoli, appear to have a less difficult tie against a Randers team that finished far behind AZ Alkmaar in their Conference League group and ranked fifth in the Danish Super League.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ potential opponents Rapid Vienna finished far behind West Ham and Dinamo Zagreb in their Europa League group and are fifth in Austria’s top flight.
