Randstad notices that companies are less eager to hire staff now that the economy is not doing so well. As a result, the temporary employment group’s income fell sharply last year and profits fell by a third.
Randstad’s annual turnover fell by 8 percent in 2023 to more than 25 billion euros. Revenues fell sharply, especially in North America. But turnover was also 9 percent lower in the Netherlands. The net profit of 624 million euros was significantly lower than the 929 million euros in 2022.
According to Randstad, companies are particularly reluctant to hire temporary workers for the long term. In January, industry figures showed that employers in the Netherlands worked almost 14 percent fewer hours with temporary workers.
Randstad CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende calls the economic climate in the world uncertain. “That influences customer decisions.” But according to him, labor markets still remain tight.
He says that Randstad is succeeding in adapting to the challenging market conditions. According to him, the margins are still good.
