Random CHAPTER Possible to trigger a polio epidemic in Pidie Aceh

The results of a polio-positive patient in Mane village, Pidie district, Aceh, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu says he went to where the child lived. He came directly to the house and checked the surrounding conditions.

“I also came directly to his home to see his condition. This patient is 7 years and 2 months old with symptoms of paralysis in his left leg. The child started to get sick on October 6, then he felt normal pain, there was fever,” he said.

“Those were the initial symptoms. Then on October 9, he started losing his muscles. On October 18, he was admitted to TCD Sigil Hospital. Then, on October 21-22, the pediatrician suspected polio and took a sample , sent to the province. Then it was sent to Jakarta.”

The sample results were received by the Health Development Policy Agency (BKPK) of the Ministry of Health on October 28 and reviewed. On November 7, 2022, the results were published via PCR, namely Polio type 2 and Sabin type 3.

“The sample was sent back to Bio Farma for sequencing and it was found that it was indeed type 2. The child had twitching of the thigh and calf muscles and indeed there was no immunization history, no history of contact travel,” Maxi said.

“There are no exits. But if you look at the condition of this child, yesterday I saw that he could walk, although he still has a limp, but there is really no medicine. After that, all that is left is physiotherapy to maintain his muscle mass. “
