Rancagua Cathedral will be closed for at least a year for restoration work – 2024-08-05 13:57:26

The worship space is currently closed due to an extensive restoration process that includes the repair of religious paintings, roof improvements and the creation of a special space for the Blessed Sacrament.

Since July 29, the Rancagua Cathedral has been closed due to restoration work that will be carried out inside, including the restoration of religious paintings, improvements to the temple’s roof and the creation of a special space for the Blessed Sacrament.

This was stated by the parish priest of El Sagrario, Father Marcelo Lorca: “On July 28, the Cathedral was closed for important restoration work that will be carried out for approximately one year so that the company working there can continue to develop its work.”

The priest in charge of the Cathedral commented that this is a gift from a foundation – which requested that its name be kept confidential – for the main religious temple in the regional capital. “They are going to carry out the restoration work, change the roof and repair the dampness on the walls that has caused havoc, and they are also going to restore the acrylic paintings that are in the temple,” Lorca explained.

Father Marcelo Lorca recalled that after the mega earthquake of February 27, there were artistic details that were left unfinished. “Although it is true that in 2010 a major restoration was carried out, the artistic part was not completed like the paintings of the altarpieces, especially the marble paintings that are on the columns of the central nave.” To these works, the priest added, “the Reservation of the Blessed Sacrament will also be moved to the center of the temple, which was how the temple originally was when it was built,” he explained.

Let us remember that after the great earthquake of 8.8, the Cathedral Church had reconstruction works that extended from August 2010 to April 2011, thanks to financing from Agrosuper that provided nearly 450 million pesos and contributions from the community.
