The Los Angeles Rams placed quarterback Matthew Stafford on injured reserve on Saturday, the team said.
With the season remaining for six weeks and the Rams eliminated from the playoffs, Stafford could be out for the remainder of the season. Players placed on injured reserve must be out for a minimum of four weeks.
The 34-year-old missed last Sunday’s game after finding himself in concussion protocol. He was released from protocol this week, but Rams head coach Sean McVay ruled Stafford out for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with a neck injury.
Stafford was also in concussion protocol when he missed the Week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
The former Pro Bowler, who helped the Rams win the Super Bowl in his freshman year with the team, passed in nine appearances in 2022 for just 2,087 yards and 10 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
John Wolford will play his second game against the Seahawks. Bryce Perkins replaced Stafford in last week’s 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Stafford arrived in Los Angeles in a trade from the Detroit Lions, who own the Rams’ first pick for the 2023 NFL Draft. According to ESPN, Detroit has a 49.7% chance of earning a top-five pick next year .
