Rampant Shoplifting and Growing Threats: Alarming Increase in US Incidents

The British newspaper “Daily Mail” reported that the incident occurred in the “7-Eleven” retail store in California earlier this year.

A videotape showed a thief wearing jeans and a dirty white shirt, covering his face with a blue cloth, dragging a wastebasket into which he threw all the cigarettes that fell under his hands, and threatening those in the store with a weapon he had in his possession.

The astonishment was clear to one of the shoppers in the place, as he filmed the theft, and called on the employees to wait until the police came.

But the thief was not satisfied with stealing a few, as he continued to loot the contents, until the employees in the store were fed up with why he was stealing so much from the store, and he responded by threatening them.

In the end, two of the employees attacked the thief, one of whom was thrown to the ground and the other began to expand him by beating him with a thick stick.

With successive blows, the thief begged that the two employees stop beating him.

increasing phenomenon

The phenomenon of shoplifting has increased in the United States to unprecedented levels, and some of it is “insolent”. These thefts have become more public, in which thieves are more aggressive. The National Retail Federation said the blight that worsened during the coronavirus pandemic would cost the industry $100 billion in 2022.
