Oxford – The prosecution has again made serious allegations against the parents of the 15-year-old who was accused of manslaughter and who allegedly shot four people at a school in the US state of Michigan.
“The defendants were in a better position than anyone in the world to prevent this tragedy from happening, but they did not,” a relevant court document said. “Instead of taking care of your son and helping him, they bought him a gun.” The parents had known that their son was “sadder than usual” and that only one friend had moved away.
Four classmates killed
According to police, the 15-year-old killed four classmates in his high school in Oxford north of Detroit in early December with the gun that his father had bought days earlier. He also injured six students and a teacher. The prosecution assumes an intentional act. In a rare step, the prosecution had also brought charges against the parents of the underage shooter. “This case is also unique in that, on the day of the shooting, the defendants willfully disregarded the clear evidence that their son posed a serious threat to other students,” prosecutors said.
She was responding to a request from her parents to change the amount of the bail. This was set at 500,000 US dollars (around 440,000 euros) each. The risk of flight is currently even greater than at the time the indictment was brought. The couple are in arrears with payments for their house and have “already shown that they will flee if given the opportunity”. The US police only caught the fugitive parents after a day-long manhunt.
