Leader of the independent movement and Nobel laureate, Jose Ramos Horta declared his victory in the presidential election Timor readThursday (21/4).
As reported Reutersthe final tally showed Ramos Horta had 62 percent of the votes cast.
“I have received this mandate from our people, from the state, in abundant demonstrations of our citizens’ commitment to democracy,” he told journalists.
This victory figure makes Ramos Horta will be appointed as the next president of Timor Leste.
As many as 1.3 million East Timorese voted for their presidential candidate on Thursday (21/4). The two candidates running in the election are Ramos-Horta and the country’s current president, Francisco “Lu Olo” Guterres.
With 100 percent of the votes counted, 62.09 percent voted for Ramos Horta, while Lu Olo got 37.91 percent of the vote.
