The German band Rammstein has the allegations of sexual misconduct against singer Till Lindemann investigated themselves. Several women say they were drugged or had sex with him against their wishes.
The newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and the broadcaster NDR came out with the allegations last week. Rammstein is now having a law firm make an inventory and investigate.
‘Decent pain’
A 21-year-old woman reported in the newspaper that she had sex with Lindemann after a concert in Hanover. In her own words, it wouldn’t be rape because she agreed. Still, she was clearly not happy with what happened. “I was also in considerable pain and he must have noticed that it wasn’t easy to make love to me.”
After concerts, the band often invites fans backstage. According to the two German media, things regularly went wrong there: young women were said to have gotten something in their drink without knowing it.
Nuanced response
In response to an accusation from a woman who was at a concert in Vilnius in May, tweeted the band first issued a denial. “We can rule out that what is alleged happened in our environment. We are not aware of any official investigations into this matter.” Saturday brought the band a more nuanced statement about the allegations.
It says that Rammstein takes the allegations very seriously and thinks it is important that everyone – in front of and behind the stage – feels safe. At the same time, the band called on fans not to judge anyone yet.
Rammstein is touring Europe this summer. At the beginning of July the band will perform twice in Groningen.
