Irish Man Faces Trial in Fatal DUI Crash

Further charges stem from Friel allegedly driving while under the influence of cocaine. The prosecution stated that a blood test conducted within three hours of the accident revealed a Benzoylecgonine (cocaine) concentration exceeding legal limits. The specific charge details the presence of “98.0 NG / ML Benzoylecgonine” in his blood.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed a trial by indictment at letterkenny Circuit Court. Mr. Rory O’Brien, Friel’s solicitor, confirmed that the Gardai had no objection to bail.
Judge Eiteain Cunningham adjourned the case until February,pending the planning of a Book of Evidence. Legal aid was granted to Friel.
