‘Rambo’ makes Spanish Galicia unsafe | Abroad

The man first appeared at the end of the summer. Several residents of Pontedeume reported burglaries in which mainly foodstuffs had been stolen: the burglar made off with crackers, beer and meat products. One Pontedeumian even found the man in his kitchen in the middle of the night.

Survival skills

Last week more became clear about the identity of the man. A hunter found a camping spot in the forests of Fragas do Eume, a natural park immediately east of Pontedeume. It was used by a man who bore a strong resemblance to Alfredo Sánchez Chacón. This convicted murderer is also known as Rambo for his prison break and survival skills.

Sánchez Chacón, 63, escaped from a prison in Galicia early this year, where he was being held for murder. He did not return from a day’s leave. Residents of Pontedeume now want nothing more than to get the criminal back behind bars. They’ve formed a vigilante to hunt ‘Rambo’.

It is not the first time that the Pontedeumians chop with this axe. After an outbreak in 2001, ‘The Galician Rambo’ was also hiding in Fragas do Eume and he was arrested even then.
